Rough Scaled Snake Rescue

Tropidechis carinatus

March 2005

As we live in the bush, we come in to contact with snakes on a regular basis. In this case Rick spotted 2 Rough scale snakes trapped in wire around a small tree next to our house. We guess they had been mating and somehow gotten trapped in the very small holes in the wire.

There being 2 snakes involved, and very close to each other, made a rescue attempt by Rick impossible, as they were both within striking distance of each other if he was to handle either snake, so we called for assistance from WIRES

2 other snake handlers arrived from WIRES, and together they managed to free the trapped snakes. Both snakes had slight damage to some scales, and snake handler Rhianna treated them both on the spot. They were both released soon after, and we hope they may stay just a little bit further away from our house.

Rhianna, Rick and Tony and is seen here treating one of the snakes.
